Chaoblog (The Blog) for July 20, 2007:
Chaotic Questions and
Answers
I just got back a bunch of answers
from my contacts at 4Kids. First some comments: (1) There are still a few
questions that were not answered – they gave answers to 9 of the 18
questions. Some they will be getting back to me, and for some, they may not
want to release the information at this time. Even though that is
disappointing, I can understand their not wanting to put out too much
information that either may change at a later time, or provide competition
with any unneeded information. Also there is not any super-amazing
information here. Some good information that confirms some suspicions, but
nothing earth shattering like the exact release date of the launch.
I want to thank my contacts at 4Kids
for providing the below information.
For each of the questions, I have
included the question I asked, their response and as an extra bonus, my own
comments on their answer or speculation as to why they have not answered.
Question #1
Online, if
you lose a battle, do you lose your cards?q
i. If yes - Is this
true for every battle? and
ii. How will you
“give” the cards to the winner?
|
4Kids
“No, a player will never
loose their cards from battle.”
|
LED’s Comment
I do not know about you,
but I think that it would be a cool option for the winner to
“take all.” I would not say that this would be good for every
battle have, but there are instances where it would be a cool
option. For instance, if you are at on of the top three levels
and you are battling against another player with an ultra rare
special edition super card, wouldn’t it be great to also win the
code for that card, so that it is now part of your own deck?
This is something that you could arrange on your own either
online or in person. However, now that I think about it, they
would not allow something on their portal because then it would
be a form of gambling which just would not fly for a website
targeted at 9 to 14 year olds.
|
Question #2
| Is
there anything that needs to be downloaded to your PC (or other device)
before you can play online? |
“No, the game is built
entirely in Flash and runs in any standard web browser.”
|
I had to ask this. I could
have sworn that Bryan Gannon said something about having to download
something onto your systems before being able to play online. I
admit that I was wrong, there is nothing that is downloaded onto
your systems in order for you to play.
|
Question #3
|
What devices will the online play be available on in the
September launch? |
|
|
It is interesting that they
did not answer this. In one of the videos commercials I saw, they
touted being able to play the game on any device that has Internet
access, including video games, phones, etc. Either they do not want
to jump the gun and announce all of the media types available right
now, or perhaps some of these devices are not going to ready for the
September launch – but they never did promise anything but the
regular portal and the physical cards for this release anyway.
|
Question #4
| On ChaoticGame.com, two of
the codes for creatures (8UX3HBV7TRV4 [Rothar] and 27J8ZC49ZH26 [Khugar])
are no longer valid – why? |
“We are currently looking into
why those two codes are not working.”
|
This was something that came
up in the forum and I wanted to follow up on it with them. By their
comment, it looks like all of these initial bio codes are supposed
to work. As of this writing, they are still invalid codes.
|
Question
#5
| How often will the news
“page” on ChaoticGame.com be updated? |
“The news page will be updated
periodically – keep checking back!”
|
Because it is “news” we would
expect it to be updated periodically, so this just confirms that it
will be updated. However, the frequency of the updates is still
unknown. This could just be a good marketing ploy on their part.
If they said that it will be updated once every two weeks, we will
only come back once every two weeks. However, by doing it this way,
we may come back a few times between each update to make sure we do
not miss anything.
|
Question #6
| When will the commercial
for Chaotic be released and in what markets/channels? |
|
|
I am guessing that since they
either just finished or are in the process of finishing up the
commercial, that they are still unsure. Maybe they have just not
booked the time slots yet with the programming agencies? Don’t
know. My guess is that they might first preview the commercial at
the San Diego Comic Con or waiting until mid-August to be within the
one-month period before the launch of the game.
|
| Would it be possible to get
a list of the base cards that will be available in the starter deck? |
“We will be releasing the base
cards that are available in the starter deck closer to, but prior to
product release.”
|
I think they are missing a few
words in their response and it should read “We will be releasing
a list of the base cards that are available in the
starter deck closer to, but prior to product release.” Once this
becomes available, myself, I am sure WEB4Kids (via Chaotic Spy), and
a few other sources will be sure to let you know.
|
| When will the next
round of Beta Testing begin – or has it already started? How many
Beta testers are being (will be) used? |
“Beta testing has already
begun. Go to ChaoticGame.com for future releases.”
|
I am not sure if I
understand the answer. Are they stating that the next round of
Beta Testing has begun or that Beta Testing in general has begun
(which we already know and was the reason for pushing back the
launch). I am going to follow up and see if they could clarify
their answer. They also did not answer the question about the
number of Beta testers.
|
Question #9
| Will ChaoticUSA.com
become active at the same time of the launch? |
|
|
They probably
did not understand my question.
|
Question #10
If everything goes
according to plan with the “late September” release – when will:
a. The mass
marketing launch occur
b. The booster
packs be released to both markets?
a. Will there
also be a lag between hobby & mass retailers for the boosters?
c. The second
series of the cards be released?
d. The
international launch occur (outside of the US & Canada)
e. Because I have
to ask – is there any specific date for the September release?
|
|
|
Sometimes you have to ask
questions to get answers. Sometimes you ask questions not
expecting an answer. I asked some very specific questions about
timing and they did not get answered. These were questions that
I did not expect to get any answers, but I had to try. After
two No-Gos on the previous launches, they are being very
cautious when it comes to giving out any dates. This is very
understandable, but I wish I could have provided the answers to
you, but maybe next time. I’ll keep on trying.
|
| When will the next season
of the TV show begin? How many episodes will be airing next season? |
“The next season of the
Chaotic TV Show will be debuting in September on 4Kids TV every
Saturday morning.”
|
A confirmation that the second
season was picked up for the September lineup, but many of us
already knew that. Not much new info here.
|
| Will there be any
codes/hints provided between now and the launch since the TV show is in
repeats? |
|
|
Hmmm . . . interesting that
they did not answer this. If they said “No,” we would not pay
attention to any commercial, video clips, etc. that they showed us.
If they said “Yes” we would get too excited, but potentially upset
if they did not have many new codes to give us. By not responding
right now, what are they saying?
|
| Is Chaotic going to appear
on any video game systems? (a) Which systems? and (b) When? |
|
|
There are two explanations (I
think) for not responding. First may be that they are unsure of all
the systems that it will appear and may be under negotiations with a
few companies, or secondly, they may already have licenses with the
makers of some video systems and may be under contract to not
announce it to the public.
|
| Will the video
game systems just be another outlet to the Online Portal – or will
they be separate games based on the Chaotic brand? |
|
|
See comment to
questions #3 and #13.
|
Question #15
| Will the Chaotic crew
be appearing anywhere else besides the San Diego Comic Con and the hobby
show in Indy? |
“The Chaotic Demo Team will be
on hand at San Diego Comic Con, GenCon Indy, and FanExpo in Toronto,
Canada.”
|
|
|
| Will the abilities for
each of the characters always be in denominations of 5? |
|
|
I think this came up on
the boards at the time I was writing this question. I know that
on the game board, the attribute level indicator is in 5’s, the
abilities on the card is in 5s, but I was just wondering,
especially in the online portal, if they could have other
numbers. I was just curious.
|
Question #17
| What were the reasons
against not releasing the cards ahead of the Online Portal? |
“I am also getting you the answer
to #17”
|
An answer should
be coming soon, so hold on to your hats. This was on of the
questions I did not expect to be answered, but later is better than
not at all.
|
| How soon after the initial
launch will tournaments begin? |
“In store tournaments are
planned to occur soon after the initial launch. Online tournaments
will commence coinciding with the initial launch of cards. More
details to be released in the coming weeks.”
|
Well, not much to comment on
here, but get ready to start battling in tournament style almost as
soon as the game launches. Can’t wait . . . .
